Over the years, I have developed a tried and tested programme of rotational study, that systematically builds up each subject, layer by layer. All of my lessons are differentiated and contain problem solving and multi staged questions. My programme also includes carefully designed tests, which test both current and previous knowledge and address common misconceptions. My examination preparation is comprehensive, not only are they exposed to a variety of papers, they are taught how to develop strategies to comprehend questions quickly and to apply the most efficient methods, especially in a time pressured exam such as the 11 Plus.
My primary focus in year 4 is to build up a strong foundation in both numeracy and literacy, only then do I turn my attention to the skills and techniques designed to help maximize test marks. Over the years, I have developed my own teaching and test material that allows the pupils to address the misconceptions and consolidate their learning allowing them to progress at a quicker rate in year 5.
In year 5, the core skills, literacy and numeracy are further developed and refined to stretch each student. Problem solving and building resilience is priority before we enter the examination phase. During this phase I utilise a variety of techniques that help with memory and speed.
SATs
SATs preparation starts in Year 6 after the 11 Plus exams. Secondary schools use the SATs results to determine the set/class your child should be placed in. It is really important that your child gets off to a good start because progressing through classes in Secondary schools can be difficult. My course has been adapted to deal with the more challenging reasoning material and new structure for the SATS.
